FLORA + BEN held THE most romantic and elegant wedding I’ve seen to date – all set on the stunning country house estate of Bowcliffe Hall, North Yorkshire.
Bowcliffe Hall was the first place they visited after their engagement and they knew instantly it was the venue for them. They loved that the venue offered exclusivity and loved all the different rooms especially the treehouse for their evening reception. They wrote their own vows with the help of Maxine at Love Celebrant which added a really special touch to the day. Here’s a little of their backstory and TOP TIPS for all you couples out there…
HOW DID YOU MEET + HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER?
We met at work and were friends for several years first. We’ve been together for nearly 5 years.
We got engaged on Ben’s birthday whilst we were away for the weekend in the Lake District. As it was his birthday it was a huge surprise. We celebrated with a 7 course meal at our hotel and champagne of course!
HOW/WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER?
Georgie is a family friend and someone we knew we’d be really comfortable having as our photographer on the day. We were hoping for timeless photos that we could always look back on and love and this is exactly what we got.
House of Fraser (suit) shoes were Marks and Spencers and ASOS (bridesmaid dresses)
We knew that the Groom, Best Man and Ushers would be wearing black tie and so we kept it simple with a black and white colour theme.
Kate Mell Flowers in Wetherby was our florist. The Bridesmaids’ bouquets were made from white hydrangeas and the Bride’s bouquet was white hydrangeas with white peonies and freesia to add a gorgeous scent.
IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS
As well as flowers we made use of lots of framed photos of our loved ones and us together dotted around the venue. Our invitations were bought online from Papier and we bought the templates for our orders of service, menus, seating plan etc from Etsy and had them printed by printed.com
ON THE MENU.
Our starter was ham hock terrine, main was cod with chive mash, summer greens and lobster sauce and our pudding was a triple chocolate parfait with passionfruit sorbet.
We tried so many delicious cakes made by Choo’s Cakes but in the end went for fruitcake and chocolate and Nutella.
We had a five piece band (with a saxophone!) called the Wilde Ones from Johnny Ross Music.
Being announced to the room as husband and wife for the first time was a very exciting moment and each of the speeches touched upon special aspects of our relationship with each other as well as friends and family.
On the day, take a few moments to look around and take in the fact that everyone who is with you is someone you know and love, it’s very rare that you have so many friends and family in one place.
